/ Mundane Mantra

Material: stereo speaker, projection, strings

Year: 2018

Scale: flexible

The ringing room becomes an interactive installation, providing a unique opportunity for its visitors to generate personal mantras to the everyday. It offers a space to stand still and reframe banal, worldly themes as celestial and of greater importance.

Using the repetitive nature of the mantra to amplify meaning, visitors can collaboratively and multi-sensually layer these themes, constructing new significance to the point of nonsense, with everything is becoming devotional.

Bearing reference to faith-related sound-making as a practice, method of structuring routine and thought, and the historic role it has played in prompting prayer, the installation encompasses sonic, visual and tactile elements.

This is a collaboration work with Ellen Davies, Thibaut Evrard, Eunmi Kim, Annabelle Randel, Olivia Sullivan.
